Welcome to Ohio!

Those Buckeye people asked for it and now they have it. Their own Floor Style branch. It is located in Columbus, right about center of the state at 4852 Frusta Dr. Columbus, OH.

What makes this so significant is the shipping times. With this Floor Style open, there is a whole new bunch of contractors who get their stuff the next day! How cool is that?

I can hear the conversation already:

Floor Sander: “Hey boss, we’re out of sandpaper, can you order us some?”
Boss: “Yea.”

Seriously Folks, we’re serious

No kidding. We are serious.

We want your hardwood flooring business. We’re not doing these sales because we make a lot of money off them. In fact, Jim, the GM, has reminded me that some of the specials we’ve run have resulted in a net loss. He is also the accountant, so he knows that kind of stuff.

Early this morning I was talking with a sales associate in our Baltimore branch and she told me she had been giving her walk-in customers a special discount on sander bags. I slapped my forehead, as I sometimes do, and thought to myself, “now that’s someone who is motivated to get return business.”

Two or three times a week I get a chance to talk with Dave Posey, the National Sports Sales and Technical Manager. From Dave I usually get “this is what I need from you for the customers I am seeing tomorrow” and then he gives me a list of things to better help him at the end-user level. That’s forward thinking I like to see. He is trying to anticipate what the customer needs before the customer needs it. He’s serious about getting new, and keeping old customers.

But my favorite person today is Adrian. I won’t use his last name, but he’ll know I’m talking about him. Adrian orders regularly from our online store and I had his 25th order come in over night. He knows what he wants, he orders it and we ship it the same day he orders. He has already compared prices, he’s already compared customer service, and he’s already compared dedication to the end user that Floor Style provides.

He knows we’re serious.

Slap yourself on the forehead day

Yesterday went just fine as sales go, phones were busy, lots of orders going out the door or onto the UPS trucks. Everyone was enthusiastic and the mood is brighter now that we’re into March and sales are climbing rapidly. And everyone is happier…except me.

First thing I did this morning when sitting down to work is slap my forehead. It made a marvelous slapping sound. I’d forgotten about the Buck-a-Bulb Day I’d planned. I really wanted it to be yesterday, as Monday is always the best day for that sale. Edger bulbs go out on almost every order, because there are thousands and thousands of Clarke B-2, B-2+, Super 7 and Super 7E edgers and toe-kick edgers out there in need of replacement bulbs.

But I was a day late. I slapped my head. It left a a handprint.

We are having the sale today. $1 for replacement edger bulbs. Even less if you’re a Buyer’s Club Member.
