Just one week left in July and people will soon be talking about the onset of autumn. They’re crazy. It’s not fair. It’s not right. It can’t be happening. There is no way this summer is passing by this quickly. Something is wrong. I say we should write to someone to make them stop this from happening. To whom should we write?
OK, so the passing of time is not something we should deal with in this forum, so instead, let’s talk about why the end is nigh. (the word ‘nigh’ is an adjective meaning, in this case, ‘near,’ and it is being used here cause it sounds cool and foreboding at the same time.)
The end is nigh because we have some major sales events coming to an end this week. The first is this huge Clarke FloorCrafter sale where you buy one of their popular 8-inch belt sanders and get an edger free. All month we’ve been selling them and all month we’ve been giving away free edgers. It works for a lot of contractors, but July 31 is the last day for it.
Also finishing up this week is the abrasives sale…in the nick of time too. We can put the prices back to the usual Floor Style price just in time to close out the End of Month books. The Floor Style price is still below MSRP, but the sale is closing down July 31, so if you need abrasives, this week is the week you want to stock up.
Drum Recovery for $99 is still going on. This has been a sale and a half for us. It seems we hit a chord with some contractors who need a drum recovered because the orders on this are still raining down on us!
We started a Polyurethane Sale last week. we’re offering Quarts from $5.49*, Gallons from $16.75* and 5-Gallon from $66.00*. I’m sure you notice the * which means this sale has some fine print, minimum quantities needing to be ordered to get the special pricing and all that, but it is still a heck of a sale going on. You have to call one of our sales associates for complete details.

If you know anything about advertising, you know it is important to keep things simple for the consumer. My instructor at the Defense Information School use to really tear into me and put red marker all over my papers for being too complicated in explanations, story details and the like. His favorite saying to me was “KISS it, Sgt. Stenzelbarton!” He meant I needed to keep my writing simple. (Keep It Simple Stupid — KISS)
So when kicking around ideas for July Specials at Floor Style, we went with that theme.
All abrasives, all month, all on sale, at all the branch locations. See the word “All?” Makes it easy on everyone. Call one of the sales people and ask what abrasives are on sale? They’ll say all of them. Need a 5′ hook and loop for your palm sander? It’s on sale. Need a box of 60 grit belts? On sale. Edger discs? On sale. 50-foot roll of drum sander paper? On sale.
If it is an abrasive, consider it on sale.
Making it even easier on everyone, in the database, we just put in a discount amount in a parameter field and all the abrasives are marked down to the sale price. (Is that too much information again?)
Yes, we also have the Clarke special going on through the end of the month too. We’ve had some very good success with this one: Buy a FloorCrafter 8″ belt sander, get an edger free. That’s another simple sale.

There is also the $99 drum recovery deal for customers. This one has been so popular with many people because the drums are lined up the full length of the work bench, the floor and the drum recovery room. We are very happy with how this deal has gone over because it too is simple: buy from us, we’ll fix your drum very inexpensively.
There are enough complications in life, Floor Style is doing what it can to keep it simple.

OK, if you’re not from the Ohio area, you can save a lot of time by not reading this post. Really. There’ll be almost nothing of interest in it for you. Tomorrow the Columbus branch of Floor Style is having it’s big Grand Opening and Home Show and unless you’re within two or three hours of the branch, it’s very doubtful you’d attend. You’d be welcomed if you did show up. We’d even let you share some of the food, enter you to win some of the cool door prizes, set in on the demos and stuff and have a good time with the rest of us. We’re like that.
Food? Yes. We provide good, sometimes non-healthy food. People do need to eat every day so we try to give them something really good.
Door Prizes? Oh Yea! Football tickets to an Ohio State football game and GPS Navigational units!
The Stanley Bostitch rep will be there and fixing Bostitch nailers for free. All you have to pay for is the parts. Can’t beat that with a stick. If you have an MIII nailer from Bostitch, bring it in. We’ll get you taken care of.
Bona, Norton, Lenmar and Clarke are all scheduled to be there and if you can’t find something to talk about with those people, you’re not really trying. They are the cream of the vendor crop and really know their equipment, finishes and abrasives.
There’ll be a bunch of fun in Columbus tomorrow, so if you’re in the area, please stop in. If nothing else, just to meet Mike Hoy and his merry band of people.
