A bargain at twice the price

When much younger in years, we had an A&P Food Store in our little town. For whatever reason, I can still recall a sign in their window that said “A bargain at twice the price” for some meat that was on sale for 39 cents a pound. (Kinda tells you how old I am)

Not sure why that memory sticks with me, probably because at the age of six, I didn’t quite get the meaning of it. Today, it is crystal clear. The edger pads which are on sale today for $49.99 each with the purchase of any 2 cases of finish, are MSRP of over $114.00. Twice $49.99 is $99.98 (high school math is now paying off). So, by my reckoning, if we had a sale on edger pads at $99.98 each, saving you $14, that’s a bargain.

But no, it is never that simple. Floor Style is selling them for $49.99 each, even though they’d be a bargain at twice the price.

The Bags are BACK!

Talking to Jim this morning, the GM of Floor Style, I ask him: “So, got any good ideas for a special today?” He says without hesitation “Go with the Contractor Bags. That always get’s the phones ringing.”

That’s why he’s the GM and I am the minion. He’s got the “lead with your strengths” thing down pat.

Every time we put the Contractor Bags out there on special, we can sometimes double or triple the amount of phone calls coming in to the branches. They’re very popular, what with being 3mil thick and come 20 to a box. Over the weekend I was in my favorite NASCAR driver’s store and saw the exact same product we sell, but it was being sold for more than $7 more than we are selling them for. (No, I’m not telling who my favorite NASCAR driver is for fear of retribution from Earnhardt, Gordan and Stewart fans)

Another thing needing mentioning is the new Bona Anti-slip Traffic product.

Here’s something you don’t see every day

Free stuff is always cool.

Free stuff you can use is always cooler.

Short story: Buy Bona Traffic, any sheen today, and we’ll give you free, 10 discs of hook & loop sandpaper. Need some for your palm sander? We got it. Edger? We got it too. We have a lot of hook & loop abrasives. You can only get up to 1 free box, which is 50 discs, but if you’re buying 5 gallons of Traffic, that $25 worth of free Hook & Loop abrasives. Not a bad deal anyway you look at it.

We also have Norton Blue Tape on special through the end of the month. Just $0.96/roll when purchased in case quantity and with an order totaling more than $300.00. Can’t beat that deal with a stick.
